FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The FSC men's soccer team picked up a 4-0 victory over Skyline Conference opponent St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Sunday afternnon. The Rams improved to 1-0-1 in conference play and 3-2-2 overall, while the Bears dropped to 1-5, 0-2.
FSC controlled play throughout the first half, taking 16 shots, to only one for St. Joe's-Brooklyn, and nine corner kicks.
In the 14th minute, Farmingdale State senior midfielder
Rafael Castro (Cartagena, Colombia) drove up the right side and scored past the diving keeper to give FSC the 1-0 advantage.
The Rams nearly doubled the score in the 25th minute as junior midfielder
Anthony Bileddo (Carle Place, N.Y.) had two shots stopped by diving saves.Â
Farmingdale State took the 1-0 lead into the break and scored just 4:37 into the second half to open up a 2-0 advantage. Sophomore forward
Tyree Baskin Jr. (Freeport, N.Y.) sent a cross in front that deflected to Bileddo, who buried the goal to the bottom right of the net.
FSC took a three-goal lead with 32:30 on the clock as freshman midfielder
Jose Gil Mejia (Guatemala City, Guatemala) sent a leading pass to set up Bileddo for a breakaway goal.
Only 6:37 later, Castro set up Gil Mejia for a goal to put Farmingdale State in front, 4-0.
Senior goalkeeper
Justin Silva (Bellerose, N.Y.) secured the shutout for FSC with a diving save in the 68th minute.
Neither team had a shot on goal down the stretch as the Rams earned the 4-0 victory.
Bileddo had four points, while Castro and Gil Mejia tallied three points apiece. Baskin Jr. added an assist in the win.
Farmingdale State next plays host to Mount Saint Mary College on Wednesday, September 27th at 7:00 p.m.
