ALBANY, N.Y. | The FSC women's tennis team earned a 6-3 win at non-conference opponent Russell Sage College on Friday afternoon.
Farmingdale State (2-2) sophomores
Mikayla DeMaria (West Babylon, N.Y.) and
Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) quickly put the Rams ahead as they opened the match with an 8-0 win at third doubles over Emma Vander Baan and Lauren Bush.
After the Gators (3-4) tied the match with an 8-1 victory at first doubles, sophomore
MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and freshman
Natalia Furchel (Manorville, N.Y.) picked up an 8-7 (7-3) tie-breaking win in the second slot to give the Rams a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
Farmingdale State clinched the match by winning the fourth through sixth singles matches as Gisler (6-1, 6-4), Loria (6-3, 6-2) and junior
Luisa Valencia (Huntington, N.Y.) (6-1, 6-1) each earned victories.
The Rams sixth point came at #2 singles, where Furchel came-from-behind to earn a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 win.
Farmingdale State remains on the road tomorrow, Saturday, September 23rd as they take on SUNY Plattsburgh at noon.
