PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. | Led by a sweep of all three doubles matches as well as three singles victories that included tiebreaker decisions, the Farmingdale State College women's tennis team won its second match in a row Saturday afternoon, besting host Plattsburgh State by a 7-2 decision.
The visiting Rams (3-2) started the afternoon up 3-0 on the host Cardinals (5-3) after earning doubles decisions at every flight. Sophomores
Amanda Jones (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) and
MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) defeated Plattsburgh's Ava Carey and Jacklin Mitchell in the second spot by an 8-1 score, while the top-flight pairing of junior
Lien Collings (Merrick, N.Y.) and freshman
Natalia Furchel (Manorville, N.Y.) scored an 8-3 decision for FSC against Nicole and Samantha Svantner. Sophomores
Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) and
Mikayla DeMaria (W. Babylon, N.Y.) completed the sweep at the third flight, registering an 8-5 victory against Jacqueline Svantner and Hallie Hurwitz.
Collings (No. 1), Gisler (No. 4) and Loria (No. 5) earned straight-set victories in their respective positions, with Gisler topping Jacqueline Svantner by scores of 6-1 and 6-4. Collings took the first set by a 6-1 score against Samantha Svantner before winning the second-set tiebreaker by a 7-2 count, with Loria starting her match against Carey with a 7-3 tiebreaker triumph before registering a 6-2 win the second frame.
Furchel dropped her first set in a 9-7 tiebreaker at No. 2 singles against Nicole Svantner, before forcing a super tiebreaker with a 6-3 win in set two. In the extra stanza, Furchel rounded out the victory by a 10-7 count.
Head coach Adam Waterhouse's Rams are scheduled to complete their three-match road trip Sunday afternoon (Sept. 24), when they face off against Castleton State (Vt.) in a 1 p.m. first serve.
