Men's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Stalemate in Skyline Opener at USMMA

Farmingdale State - 1; USMMA - 1
KINGS POINT, N.Y. | Junior midfielder Anthony Bileddo (Carle Place, N.Y.) headed home his fourth goal of the season Tuesday night at Bartoszek Field for the Farmingdale State College men's soccer team, which opened its Skyline Conference schedule with a 1-1 tie at the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

Bileddo put the visiting Rams (2-2-2, 0-0-1 Skyline) in front 19 minutes into play following a nifty build-up of the attack in the Mariners' (0-4-4, 0-0-2) end of the field. Sophomore winger Tyree Baskin Jr. (Freeport, N.Y.) had possession 30 yards in front of goal, before sending senior Luke Kasulke (Seaford, N.Y.) into space down the left wing. The senior then sent a cross to the middle of the penalty area, which Bileddo headed into the top-right corner of the net to give FSC a 1-0 edge. For Bileddo, his four goals is tied for the fifth-most on the Skyline Conference leaderboard thus far in 2023.

USMMA leveled the match 17 minutes later, when Billy Castoro's header off a corner kick from Mark Sommer hit the base of the right-hand goalpost and trickled over the goal line to square the match at 1-1.

The teams each took 10 shots on the evening, with the Rams defense of Hubert Fryzel (So.; Queens, N.Y.), Wilmer Dominguez (Sr.; La Ceiba, Honduras), Christopher Cerna (Jr.; Brentwood, N.Y.) and Mateo Soto (Fr.; Shirley, N.Y.) limiting the host side to just the one shot on target in front of senior keeper Justin Silva (Bellerose, N.Y.). FSC placed four shots on goal on the night, as well as seeing one attempt midway through the second half rattle off the post.

Head coach Chuck Schimpf's Farmingdale State squad will next open up a four-match homestand in Skyline play on Saturday, when it plays host to St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn in a noon kickoff.
