ONEONTA, N.Y. | A pair of first-half goals helped propel the 13th-ranked SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team past visiting Farmingdale State College on Saturday afternoon by a 3-0 margin.
The host Red Dragons (6-0) received a ninth-minute goal from the penalty spot from Ian Zingaro, before Luigi Prosperi doubled his side's advantage in open play two minutes later, as Oneonta carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.
FSC (2-2-1) put six shots on target in the second frame, but were unable to tally against the hosts -- who picked up a 68th-minute goal from Owen Siegel to account for the final score.
Rams senior netminderÂ
Justin Silva (Bellerose, N.Y.) made six saves for the visitors, while the FSC defense cleared two Red Dragons shots off the line to stay within striking distance.
Head coach Chuck Schimpf's Farmingdale State squad next opens up Skyline Conference play Tuesday night, when it travels to Kings Point, N.Y., for a 7 p.m. kickoff at defending champion U.S. Merchant Marine Academy from Bartoszek Field.
