Men's Basketball Earns Season-Opening Win Over EastConn

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's basketball team hosted Eastern Connecticut State in their season opener on Wednesday afternoon and earned a 95-80 victory. FSC had five players score in double-digits in the win.

The game was tied at 27-27 with 6:06 remaining in the first half before back-to-back layups by the Warriors (0-1) gave them a four-point edge.

Rams' senior guard Corey Powell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) quickly answered with a pair of jumpers to knot the score at 31-31.

After another layup by EastConn, Farmingdale State closed the half on an 11-2 run, including seven points from senior guard Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.), to take a 42-35 lead into the break.

Davis had 18 first-half points to lead all scorers.

FSC opened the second half with a layup by freshman forward Kentrell Evans (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and a jumper by Davis to open up an 11-point advantage.

Following a layup by the Warriors, Davis hit a free-throw and Evans grabbed an offensive board and layup to go ahead, 49-37.

Eastern Connecticut trailed by nine, 63-54, with 12:08 to play before sophomore guard Dominick Dao hit a pair of 3's in an 8-2 run to cut their deficit to just three at 65-62.

Farmingdale State responded with a 3-pointer by freshman forward Liam Buckley (Manhasset, N.Y.) and a fast break score by Powell to regain an eight-point lead, 70-62.

After another 3-pointer by Dao with nine minutes remaining, an 11-3 run by the Rams, capped by another Buckley 3, put FSC ahead 81-68.

Farmingdale State led by as many as 17 down the stretch as they went on for the 95-80 non-conference victory.

Davis finished with a team-high 21 points, to go along with four rebounds and four assists. Senior forward Nick Hurowitz (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) tallied a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while Powell shot 7-for-12 from the field for 14 points. Senior guard Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) recorded 11 points and five assists and Buckley was a perfect 4-for-4 off the bench for 10 points. Evans added nine points and five rebounds in his collegiate debut, while sophomore guard Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) had nine points, three assists and three rebounds.

Dao tallied a game-high 30 points in the loss for EastConn.

Farmingdale State will next head on the road to compete in the Scranton Invitational. The Rams will first take on Marywood on Friday, November 10th at 7:30 p.m. before playing in either the consolation or championship game of the tournament on Saturday.
