Men's Basketball Moves to 6-1 With Victory vs. NJCU

Farmingdale State 91, New Jersey City University 71
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's basketball team moved to 6-1 on the season Monday night, as the Rams defeated visiting New Jersey City University by a 91-71 count at the Walter A. Lynch Sports Center.

Down 10-7 early on to the Gothic Knights (1-4), FSC went on a tone-setting 23-2 run to take a 30-12 lead with 7:26 left in the first half after consecutive layups by senior post Jovayne Walters (Cambria Hts., N.Y.). The Rams shot 10-of-15 during the 9-minute stretch, while limiting NJCU to 1-of-12 shooting with five turnovers.

Farmingdale State remained in control the rest of the way, taking a 45-30 advantage into the locker room at halftime. Senior guard Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored all 14 of his points in the opening session, shooting 5-of-9 from the field and 3-of-6 from long range.

The Rams, who shot 18-of-33 (.545) from the floor in the opening half, continued to pour on the offense in the second frame, growing the lead to as many as 36 points when sophomore point guard Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) knocked down a pair of free throws with 8:15 left.

FSC's defense helped lead the way, as it limited NJCU to 39.1 percent shooting (27-of-69) on the evening – marking the third time in the last four outings it's held the opposition under the 40-percent threshold. The Rams also owned a 42-29 advantage on the glass, resulting in a 15-8 edge in second-chance points.

Davis was one of four Farmingdale State players to score in double figures, including a 19-point, nine-rebound outing by senior swingman Nick Hurowitz (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) on 7-of-14 shooting. Notias finished with 12 points – including 10 in the second half – while senior point guard Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.) collected 11 points and nine assists during his turnover-free outing.

Head coach Brendan Twomey's Farmingdale State side will next open Skyline Conference play on Wednesday, Dec. 6, when the defending champions' title defense begins at St. Joseph's University-Long Island. Tip-off at the Danzi Center in Patchogue, N.Y., is slated for 7 p.m.
