Men's Basketball Captures Hilton Scranton Invitational vs. Royals

Hilton Scranton Invitational - Championship
Farmingdale State 77, Scranton 65
SCRANTON, Pa. | The Farmingdale State College men's basketball team captured the Hilton Scranton Invitational title Saturday afternoon, defeating host University of Scranton by the score of 77-65.

FSC (3-0) senior swingman Nick Hurowitz (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) was named the MVP of the two-day tourney after scoring 30 points against the Royals (1-1), while fellow all-tournament team member Corey Powell (Sr.; Valley Stream, N.Y.) added 12 in the victory.

The Rams never trailed against last year's NCAA Round of 32 participants and Landmark Conference champions, and jumped ahead 20-10 with 9:37 left in the first half on a 3-pointer by senior point guard Jevon Santos (Elmont, N.Y.). Scranton pulled back even at 28 apiece on a fastbreak trifecta with three minutes remaining, before FSC scored points on each of its last four possessions to take a 37-34 lead into the half.

Scranton closed to within a 53-52 count with 13 minutes on the second-half clock, before the Rams got five-straight defensive stops to open up a nine-point lead when sophomore point guard Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) knocked down a jumper with 9:34 remaining. Farmingdale State extended its lead to as many as 13 on a conventional 3-point play underneath by Hurowitz with 4:28 left, before his long-distance effort with 66 seconds to go iced the contest.

Santos scored 11 points (2-of-3 3FG) to go with four assists, while senior guard Aaron Davis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) added 10 points and eight boards – scoring in double figures for his third-consecutive outing. Freshman Liam Buckley (Manhasset, N.Y.) led all players with five assists, and gathered five rebounds.

Head coach Brendan Twomey's FSC side is back on the road Wednesday night (Nov. 15), when it travels to Brooklyn College for a 7:15 p.m. tip.
