Volleyball Downed in Four vs. St. Joseph's-Long Island

St. Joseph's-Long Island - 3; Farmingdale State - 1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-14, 25-22)
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College volleyball team fell Wednesday night in Skyline Conference action to visiting St. Joseph's University-Long Island by a 3-1 margin (25-18, 22-25, 25-14, 25-22).

The host Rams (5-8, 3-2 Skyline) received a team-high 17 points from junior middle blocker Mikayla Profeta (W. Islip, N.Y.), who floored 13 kills to go with three service aces and one solo block, with senior middle Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Hts., N.Y.) chipping in with 12 kills, two aces and seven digs. Senior outside hitter Madeline Stanley (Massapequa Pk., N.Y.) tallied seven kills, while tying for the team lead with sophomore libero Lana Ventura (Pt. Washington, N.Y.) with 11 digs apiece.

After the Golden Eagles (9-6, 4-1) jumped in front by as many as six points in set one, FSC battled back to within a 21-18 margin after kills in back-to-back side outs by Stanley and Ricketts. Three straight kills by the visitors set the tone, as SJU-LI took a one-set victory against the hosts.

Trailing 17-16 in the second stanza, the Rams picked up six-consecutive points on the serving of junior setter Molly Miller (E. Northport, N.Y.) to take a lead that it would not relinquish, with Profeta's kill on a side out sealing the second set and knotting the match at 1-all.

St. Joseph's earned the first five points of set number three, and never trailed in going up by a 2-1 score. In the fourth and final stanza, the teams exchanged the lead four times and had nine tied scores, before the Golden Eagles pulled away with four-consecutive markers after the set was tied at 18-18 to take control for good.

Head coach Kellie Block's side is next in action Saturday (Oct. 7), when it travels to Wayne, N.J., for a tri-match against Pratt Institute and host William Paterson University of New Jersey (3 p.m.).
