FSC Falls to Manhattanville in 'Salute to Veterans' Game

Manhattanville - 2, Farmingdale State - 1
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Skyline Conference opponent Manhattanville on Tuesday afternoon. The Rams suffered their first loss in conference play and are now 3-1-1.

Today, the men's soccer program hosted their 'Salute to Veterans' game, in conjunction with the Northport VA Medical Center. The Rams held a special pregame ceremony honoring patients from the VA Hospital, Lou Marcello, Richard Bass and Dennis Cudahy, as the Veterans of the Game. FSC also recognized staff members from the recreation and nursing departments, Chelsea Martucci, Linda Paige, Eric Maltz and Vivian Jacobsen.

The Rams (5-3-2, 3-1-1 Skyline) opened the scoring in the 24th minute after sophomore forward Tyree Baskin Jr. (Freeport, N.Y.) blocked a kick by a Valiants (3-3-4, 3-0-2 Skyline) defender to send FSC on a break. Baskin Jr. collected the ball and passed it off to junior midfielder Anthony Bileddo (Carle Place, N.Y.), who immediately sent a cross in front to senior midfielder Rafael Castro (Cartagena, Colombia) for the tap-in goal.

Manhattanville responded just four minutes later as freshman midfielder Manuel Morales won a loose ball and scored to the top right corner of the net from 30 yards out.

With just 3:13 remaining in the first half, Morales once again stole the ball from a Rams defender and took a long shot for his second of the game and eventual game-winner.

Farmingdale State attempted four shots in the second half, with their best opportunity coming with just over six minutes to play. Baskin Jr. subbed back into the game and nearly tied the score with a header that went just wide of the left goal post.

Baskin Jr. had the Rams final shot with 45 seconds on the clock, but Valiants senior goalie Luis Granados made the stop to secure the 2-1 win.

Senior goalkeeper Justin Silva (Bellerose, N.Y.) made three saves in defeat.

FSC will next travel to play Skyline Conference opponent Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday, October 7th at noon.
