BROOKLYN, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's volleyball team traveled to Skyline Conference opponent St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn on Monday evening, and moved to 3-1 in conference play with a 3-0 win (25-19, 25-22, 25-21) over the host Bears.
The Rams (5-7) received 14 points from junior middle blocker
Mikayla Profeta (W. Islip, N.Y.), who put down 12 kills on .312 hitting to go with two service aces and eight digs, while senior middle
Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Hts., N.Y.) hit .368 with 10 kills. Senior outside hitter
Madeline Stanley (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) added eight kills on a .286 attack percentage, with freshman setter
Sarah Rende (Wantagh, N.Y.) registering 25 assists in directing the FSC offense to a .210 hitting percentage on the evening. Rende tied with junior libero
Lana Ventura (Pt. Washington, N.Y.) for the team-high with nine digs apiece, with sophomore
Delaney Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y.) passing eight.Â
In set one, FSC was up 20-19 on the Bears (3-6, 1-2 Skyline), before Stanley put down a kill to put her side up two. From there, junior
Jenya Surlin (E. Meadow, N.Y.) served out the rest of the set, which included a service ace and one back-row kill, to place the visitors up after the opening stanza.
Neither team led by more than five in set two, as the set featured six tied scores and five lead changes, with the Rams pulling away for a 2-0 lead behind a five-kill frame from Profeta.
The junior's eight-point serving display pushed FSC in front 17-10 in the final set, before St. Joseph's-Brooklyn crept to within a 23-20 count. From there, back-to-back kills on side outs by Stanley and Profeta sent the Rams home with the triumph.
Head coach Kellie Block's Farmingdale State team remains in Skyline play Wednesday evening, when it plays host to St. Joseph's University-Long Island at 6 p.m. from the Walter A. Lynch Sports Center.
