Volleyball Collects Fourth-Straight Skyline Sweep at Maritime

Farmingdale State - 3; Maritime - 0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-16)
THROGGS NECK, N.Y. | Led by seven service aces from freshman Doly DeJesus (Geneva, N.Y.), along with an 18-kill outing from senior middle blocker Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Hts., N.Y.), the Farmingdale State College volleyball team collected its fourth-consecutive sweep over a Skyline Conference opponent Thursday night at Riesenberg Gymnasium, defeating host SUNY Maritime College by a 3-0 margin (25-15, 25-13, 25-16).

The visiting Rams (9-10, 7-2 Skyline) dropped in 14 aces against the Privateers (7-12, 3-6), with three coming from junior middle blocker Mikayla Profeta (W. Islip, N.Y.), who added 10 kills on .300 hitting along with one solo block. Ricketts's evening included hitting at a .417 clip (18-3-36), with freshman Sarah Rende (Wantagh, N.Y.) passing out 29 assists in her 73 setting attempts for a .397 efficiency running the Rams' offense. Junior libero Lana Ventura (Pt. Washington, N.Y.) led all players with 10 digs, with Rende and sophomore defensive specialist Delaney Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y.) passing eight apiece.

DeJesus served 11-consecutive points break a 2-all tie, with four of her aces coming during that stretch, in a first set in which Farmingdale State completed the set through just seven service rotations. Ricketts landed six kills on .417 hitting during the frame.

The second stanza was more of the same for the away side, with Profeta dropping in three kills during a decisive 9-1 run to put her side well in front by a 21-9 margin en route to the 12-point win. Once again, Ricketts played lights out during the set, collecting eight kills on 11 error-free attacks versus Maritime.

Ricketts and Profeta scored four kills apiece in the final set, including the junior's .667 hitting percentage on six error-free swings to go along with a pair of aces to close out the match.

Head coach Kellie Block's Farmingdale State side is back at home at the Walter A. Lynch Sports Center for its next two matches, including Saturday's (Oct. 21) noon first serve in non-conference competition against Baruch College.
