Farmingdale State - 3; Baruch - 0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-19)
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Behind a combined 34 points from junior middle blocker
Mikayla Profeta (W. Islip, N.Y.) and senior middle
Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Hts., N.Y.), the Farmingdale State College volleyball team collected its fifth-straight victory by straight sets Saturday afternoon at the Walter A. Lynch Sports Center, knocking off visiting Baruch College in non-conference action by scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-19.
The Rams (10-10) hit .238 on the afternoon against the Bearcats (8-11), including a 15-kill effort on .281 hitting by Ricketts, along with an 11-1-28 (.357) hitting line to go with seven service aces by Profeta. Junior libero
Lana Ventura (Pt. Washington, N.Y.) passed a team-best 10 digs to go with two service aces for FSC, whose offensive efforts were directed by a 27-assist showing from freshman setter
Sarah Rende (Wantagh, N.Y.).
Farmingdale State set the pace in the first set, using a 10-3 run behind serving midway through from Ricketts, Ventura and sophomore
Delaney Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y.) to jump ahead of Baruch by a 21-9 margin. The Bearcats crept to within a 24-19 margin, before Ricketts put down her fifth kill of the frame to put her side in front, 1-0.
Rende's six-serve rotation late in the second stanza was the difference, as it pushed the hosts in front 20-11 en route to an eight-point victory to go ahead by a pair of sets. FSC hit at a blistering .357 clip (11-1-28) in the set, including a .500 (6-1-10) showing by Ricketts.
The third set was tied as late as 13-all, before Profeta put down one of her four kills to start a four-point spurt by FSC to push the home side in front for good. Her four-serve stint later in the frame included a pair of kills by Ricketts to give the Rams a 22-17 lead en route to the sweep.
Head coach Kellie Block's side next is at home for an important Skyline Conference match on Tuesday night (Oct. 24), when it plays host to Senior Night against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at 7 p.m. The Rams will recognize their three seniors -- Ricketts,
Madeline Stanley (Massapequa Pk., N.Y.) and
Chrissy Hobson (Bellport, N.Y.) -- in a pre-match ceremony for their contributions to the program.
