FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State men's soccer team used three second half goals to earn a 3-0 victory over Maritime College on Tuesday evening. Senior goalkeeper
Justin Silva (Bellerose, N.Y.) earned the 21st solo shutout of his career setting a new school record. The previous record of 20 was held by Patrick Gubbins since 2009. With the win, the Rams improved to 9-3-2 overall and 6-1-1 in Skyline Conference play.
It was Senior Night at FSC and a special pregame ceremony was held for seven graduating seniors: goalkeepers
Peter Khazar (Deer Park, N.Y.) and Silva, defender
Wilmer Dominguez (La Ceiba, Honduras), and midfielders
Luke Kasulke (Seaford, N.Y.),
Brandon Balcaceres (Farmingdale, N.Y.),
Esnaire Rivera (Levittown, N.Y.) and
Rafael Castro (Cartagena, Colombia).
FSC and Maritime (3-8-3, 0-7-2 Skyline) played to a scoreless first half with the Rams holding a 4-1 edge in shots on goal. Farmindale State's best chance came just three minutes in when junior midfielder
Anthony Bileddo (Carle Place, N.Y.) had his shot hit off the post before junior forward
Nick Intrabartolo (Massapequa, N.Y.) sent the rebound high.
The Rams came out quick in the second half, sending a pair of shots just wide of the net before taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by junior forward
Joseph Raso (East Islip, N.Y.). Dominguez sent a pass from the defensive zone all the way up top to Raso, who dribbled past a defender and buried the goal for the 1-0 lead.
Farmingdale State doubled the advantage in the 63rd minute after converting a perfect give-and-go, with Dominguez scoring off the pass from Castro to put FSC ahead, 2-0.
The Rams final goal came with 15:07 remaining, when both Raso and Castro assisted on a goal by sophomore forward
Tyree Baskin Jr. (Freeport, N.Y.) to take the 3-0 lead.
FSC held the Privateers to just one shot on goal in the second half.
Silva finished with three saves in net, while Maritime goalkeeper Augusto Lebron stopped 11 shots.
Farmingdale State will next travel to Skyline Conference opponent Mount Saint Vincent on Thursday, October 19th at 4:00 p.m.
