FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | In a team match that featured four tiebreakers, three went in favor of the Farmingdale State College women's tennis team, which moved to 9-3 on the season with an 8-1 victory over visiting Hunter College in non-conference competition.

The Rams were up 2-1 after doubles play against the Hawks (4-4), which included an 8-4 victory in the second flight by sophomore Amanda Jones (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) and freshman Natalia Furchel (Manorville, N.Y.) over Hunter's Anna Chapko and Grace Portuese. The No. 3 doubles tandem of sophomores Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) and Rebecca Ness (Clintondale, N.Y.) won their match versus the Hawks' Lily O'Heir and Julia Aksamentova by an 8-7 margin, including a 7-3 decision in the tiebreaker round.

From there, FSC won all six singles matches, including a top-flight win by junior Lien Collings (Merrick, N.Y.) against Angelina Catania by scores of 7-5 and 7-6 (7-5). Furchel went into a super-tiebreaker third set after splitting her first two sets at No. 2 against Chapko, 4-6 and 6-0, before battling out a 13-11 edge in the extra session. Jones posted identical 7-5 set scores in her No. 3 victory against Mia Chan, with classmate MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) topping fourth-flight opponent Mariela Pechalova, 6-1 and 6-3. Loria outlasted Aksamentova in the fifth flight, 6-3 and 6-2, with sophomore Heather McGullam (Hauppauge, N.Y.) accounting for the final score with her 6-2, 6-4 decision at the No. 6 slot versus Portuese.

Head coach Adam Waterhouse's Farmingdale State contingent is scheduled to wrap up regular-season fall play on Saturday (Oct. 14), when it plays host to Skyline Conference foe Purchase College in a noon first serve. The contest will mark the Rams' last match prior to next week's Skyline Conference Championship.
