Volleyball Winning Streak Now at 11 after Five-Set Victory at Baruch

Box Score

Farmingdale State - 3; Baruch - 2 (25-12, 25-23, 23-25, 24-26, 15-11)

NEW YORK | Junior Kalena Ricketts (Cambria Hts., N.Y.) hit at a match-best .423 clip Friday night at the ARC Arena, and was one of three players on the Farmingdale State College women's volleyball to register double-digit kills to help the Rams move their winning streak to 11-consecutive matches with a 3-2 victory in non-conference play at host Baruch College (25-12, 25-23, 23-25, 24-26, 15-11).

FSC (12-7) received 18 points apiece from seniors Cathleen Farrell (Bayport, N.Y.) and Kate Flamio (E. Islip, N.Y.). Farrell tallied a match-best 16 kills to go with two service aces, while Flamio added 14 kills, 15 digs and a match-high four aces. Ricketts hit .300-plus for the sixth-straight match, and eighth in the last nine outings, by chipping in with 13 kills and a match-best two solo blocks. Senior libero Madisyn Pozo (Bayside, N.Y.) passed a match-best 26 digs to go with six assists and two service aces, while senior setter Lexi Cavalieri (Lake Grove, N.Y.) contributed 25 assists, nine digs and two aces.

Flamio collected eight points (six kills, two aces) in the convincing first-set victory over the Bearcats (14-11), before a kill at 24-23 in the second set by sophomore middle Mikayla Profeta (Knoxville, Tenn.) sent the visitors in front by a 2-0 score in the match.

Baruch took the third and fourth sets by two-point margins, including an extra-time 26-24 decision in set four behind six-straight points, to set the stage for the deciding fifth set. In the finale, the Bearcats jumped out to a 3-1 lead before six-straight FSC points, buoyed by Flamio's serving and a pair of kills by Farrell, gave the visitors a 6-3 lead that it wouldn't relinquish. After Baruch pulled to within a 13-11 score, Ricketts put down a kill on the next sideout before Flamio's match-point serve resulted in an ace to give the Rams the victory.

Head coach Kellie Block's Farmingdale State squad is back in Skyline Conference action Tuesday night, when it travels back to the ARC Arena for an 8 p.m. first serve against host Yeshiva University.
