Shelton, Hall Lead FSC to Win Over Calvin on Spring Break Trip

Englewood, Fla. - Farmingdale State midfielders Sam Shelton (Holtsville, N.Y.) and Danielle Hall (Levittown, N.Y.) scored five and four goals, respectively, to lead the FSC women's lacrosse team to a 15-12 win over non-conference opponent Calvin College on Wednesday night in Englewood, Florida. FSC earned their first win of the season and now sit at 1-6, while the Knights dropped to 4-2 overall.

Tied 4-4 with just over 10 minutes left in the first half, Calvin recorded back-to-back goals to take a 6-4 advantage. Over the final 6:16, Farmingdale State outscored the Knights 2-1 as sophomore midfielder Haley Perez (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Shelton recorded goals to enter the break down by just one, 7-6.

Calvin came out strong in the second half, tallying a pair of goals in the first three minutes to go up by three, 9-6.

Still trailing by three, 10-7, with 24:10 remaining, FSC scored four straight goals to take an 11-10 advantage. Sophomore attack Deanna Iannotta (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and Hall tallied goals before Shelton scored twice to put the Rams up by one. 

After Knights' senior attack Genevieve Schneermann (Farmington, Mich.) registered a goal to tie the game at 11-11, Farmingdale State senior attack Jessica Spina (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), Iannotta and freshman midfielder Skylar Steinberg (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) produced goals to put FSC ahead, 14-11.

The Rams held Calvin to just one goal the rest of the way as they went on for the 15-12 non-conference victory.

Along with her game-high five goals, Shelton added two draw controls, two ground balls and one caused turnover. Perez and Iannotta had two goals and one assist apiece and Spina recorded a game-high six points on one goal and five assists.

For the Knights, Schneermann had five goals in the loss.

Farmingdale State next hosts non-conference opponent Western Connecticut State on Monday, March 25th at 4:00 p.m.
