Rivera's Penalty Kick Goal Leads Rams Over Hunter

Box Score

Farmingdale State - 1, Hunter College - 0

New York, N.Y. - Sophomore forward Carlos Rivera (Huntington Station, N.Y.) scored on a penalty kick in the 74th minute of regulation to lead the Farmingdale State men's soccer team to a season opening victory over non-conference opponent Hunter College this afternoon, 1-0.

At 70:41 of the second half, a shot by Hawks sophomore midfielder Jesus Patino Muniz (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was stopped by senior goalkeeper Daniel Stern (Kings Park, N.Y.) as the action went down to the other end of the field.

Rams senior defender Gerard Farrell (Floral Park, N.Y.) tallied a shot that was saved at 72:23. Less than a minute later, a foul in the box allowed Rivera to step up for the penalty kick and the eventual deciding score.

Over the final 16:42 of the contest, neither team was able to produce another shot on goal as FSC earned their first win of the season.

Stern finished with five saves, while Hunter College goalkeeper Noah Dougherty (Bovina Center, N.Y.) totaled three saves in the game.

Farmingdale State next travels back to Randall's Island Park as they meet John Jay tomorrow, Saturday, September 2nd at 12:30 p.m. for another non-conference game.
