Martinez and Cashman Honored for Senior Day as FSC Falls to Maritime

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team dropped a Skyline Conference doubleheader to Maritime this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. Seniors Kevin Martinez (Glen Cove, N.Y.) and Kevin Cashman (Hicksville, N.Y.) were each honored prior to game one for senior day.

In the top of the first with one on and two out, Maritime (22-13, 11-5) took a 1-0 lead after an RBI triple from senior right fielder Paul Woodburn (Huntingtown, MD).

After a Ryan Osborne (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) triple to right center in the bottom of the fourth, sophomore first baseman Christopher Reilly (Levittown, N.Y.) followed with an RBI single to left to tie the game at 1-1.

The Privateers used a four-run top of the seventh inning to take a 5-1 lead.

In the bottom of the ninth, FSC (18-14, 12-4) second baseman Domenic Palumbo (Plainview, N.Y.) recorded an RBI groundout which scored Brandon Snow (Owings, MD) for the final run of the game as the Rams were defeated, 5-2.

Osborne finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, triple and run scored, while freshman center fielder Nick Attardi (Smithtown, N.Y.) had two hits in four at-bats.

Maritime sophomore second baseman Chris Deddo (Staten Island, N.Y.) led off game two with a double to left field. Two batters later, a Stephen Semler (Kirkland, Wash.) RBI groundout gave the Privateers a 1-0 advantage.

After Maritime added a run in each of the next two innings, FSC used an RBI single to right by junior left fielder Matteo Gaudio (Glen Cove, N.Y.) in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 3-1.

The Rams closed within one in the bottom of the fourth on a Palumbo RBI single which scored Reilly.

Maritime plated the final run of the game in the sixth inning as the Rams fell, 4-2.

Gaudio was 2-for-3 at the plate with a run batted in.

The Privateers were led by Deddo who was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and two runs scored.

Farmingdale State, who earned the #1 seed heading in the playoffs, will host the Skyline Conference Baseball Tournament on May 6-8.
