Two Big Innings Leads Rams over Bearcats

Box Score

Farmingdale State - 9, Baruch College - 5

Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State (7-10) baseball team used two big innings to claim a 9-5 non-conference victory over Baruch College (9-14) today at MCU Park in Brooklyn, N.Y. The Rams scored six runs in the second inning and three runs in the ninth to secure the win, led by senior centerfielder Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), who finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a walk and two RBI's.

Baruch led 1-0 before a six-hit second inning gave the Rams a 6-1 advantage. Sophomore Richard Sullivan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) led off the inning with a single to right center, followed by a sophomore Nick Osburn (East Islip, N.Y.) double down the left field line, moving Sullivan over to third. Senior Anthony McQuade (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored Sullivan on a sac fly to tie it at 1-1.

A freshman Domenic Palumbo (Plainview, N.Y.) walk and a sophomore Kenneth Johntry (Yaphank, N.Y.) bunt single loaded up the bases, before Alvino's one-out single up the middle scored two more runs for a 3-1 Farmingdale State lead. Senior Michael Marino (Franklin Square, N.Y.) scored senior Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) with a single to center, 4-1, while junior Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) sent home the final two runs with a two-RBI single up the middle.

The Bearcats scored four runs over the next five innings, but relief pitchers Alex Pangourelias (Senior, Briarwood, N.Y.) and Christopher Reilly (Freshman, Levittown, N.Y.) would hold them scoreless over the final three innings en route to the 9-5 Rams victory. Pangourelias pitched a no-hit seventh inning, while Reilly closed the final two innings.

Junior Matthew Fick (Commack, N.Y.) was awarded the win on two innings of relief, allowing just one hit and one earned run while striking out two with no walks.

Farmingdale State will now host Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday, April 11th in their first home game of the season, a Skyline Conference doubleheader starting at Noon.
