Rams Fall to Skyline Rivals in Double OT

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team fell 10-9 in double overtime today at the hands of their Skyline rivals St. Joseph's. With the loss, the Rams dropped to 4-4 overall, 2-1 in the Skyline, while the Golden Eagles improved to 7-3, 3-0.

St. Joe's went up 3-0 off two goals by sophomore attack Meaghan Haber (East Northport, N.Y.) and a free position goal by senior midfielder Ela Igdeler (Islip, N.Y.). The Rams got on the board at 19:32 with a score from senior attack Jackie Kennedy (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) to make it 3-1. St. Joe's outscored Farmingdale 2-1 over the next 19 minutes and held the 5-2 lead into the break.

In the second, Kelly Geheran cut the deficit to 5-3 with an unassisted goal, before the Golden Eagles netted three straight for an 8-3 advantage. With 19:01 left in the half, senior midfielder Christy Thoden (Bayport, N.Y.) scored her first of two goals to spark the Rams' five consecutive goals to tie the game at 8-8. Senior midfielder Alyssa Handel (Medford, N.Y.) scored the game-tying goal with 2:30 left to play, off an assist from Thoden, sending the Rams to overtime.

In the first overtime, senior attack Caitlynn Webber (Eastport, N.Y.) gave St. Joseph's the 9-8 lead off a feed from junior midfielder Jessica Cordano (Oakdale, N.Y.). Farmingdale State responded two minutes later when junior midfielder Kristine Minogue (Miller Place, N.Y.) notched her first goal of the game off a Thoden pass.

The score remained 9-9 and would go into a second overtime, where the Golden Eagles' junior midfielder Heather Ferchland (Selden, N.Y.) would score on a free position shot en route to the sudden death win.

For Farmingdale State, Thoden finished with a game-high six points (2 goals, 4 assists), along with five caused turnovers and six ground balls. Kennedy tallied a goal and two assists, while senior midfielder Nicole Marzocca (North Babylon, N.Y.) finished with five ground balls along with one goal. Marzocca's goal today makes her the All-Time leading scorer at Farmingdale State with 174 career goals to date.

Sophomore goalkeeper Krista Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) played a great game in net for the Rams, making 12 saves in defeat.

Farmingdale State will now travel to face The Sage Colleges on Saturday, April 11th at 1:00 p.m. in a Skyline game. The game will be played at RPI on the Lower Renwyck Field.
