Farmingdale State - 13, Mount Saint Vincent - 7

Riverdale, N.Y. - Senior attack Philip Schaefer* (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored a game-high five goals and added one assist as Farmingdale State earned a 13-7 victory at Mount Saint Vincent in their Skyline Conference opener on Saturday. The men's lacrosse team improved to 6-2 (1-0) on the season, while the Dolphins fell to 0-5 (0-1).

Junior midfielder Derrick Sherrod (Huntington, N.Y.) scored back-to-back goals to start the game to put the Rams ahead 2-0 early in the first. With 4:31 left in the period, FSC increased their lead to 3-0 on a goal by sophomore attack Tyler Rifice (Bohemia, N.Y.) off the pass from Damian Romanelli (Lindenhurst, N.Y.).

After Sherrod tallied his third goal of the game, freshman attack Michael Cegielski (Somers, N.Y.) closed the first period with a score which put Farmingdale State on top, 5-0.

The Dolphins recorded three unanswered goals to cut the deficit to 5-3 with 2:02 left to play in the first half. With 38 seconds remaining, Schaefer scored an unassisted goal to bring the Rams lead back to three, 6-3. Only 25 seconds later, another score by Schaefer gave Farmingdale State 7-3 advantage heading into halftime.

Mount Saint Vincent used quick scores to start the second half by Pat McEnaney (New York, N.Y.) and Mike McEnaney (New York, N.Y.) to close within two.

Leading 8-6 with 5:54 remaining in the third, senior midfielder Mike Strebel (East Northport, N.Y.) recorded an unassisted score to put the Rams back ahead by three.

Farmingdale State held a 9-7 lead entering the fourth and outscored MSV 4-0 in the period to earn the 13-7 victory.

Sherrod finished with three goals, while Cegielski had two goals, one assist and five ground balls. Rifice recorded two goals and picked up a game-high seven ground balls for the Rams.

The Dolphins were led by Pat MeEnaney and Rob Lalli (Tuckahoe, N.Y.) who each had a team-high two goals.

Farmingdale State junior goalkeeper Thomas Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y.) stopped seven shots, while junior Ben Gashi (Bronx, N.Y.) had 17 saves for the Dolphins.

The Rams next will travel to Misericordia for a non-conference game on Wednesday, April 1st at 7:00 p.m.
