Paccione, Marino Lead Rams in Sweep of St. Joe's on Senior Day

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Senior Daniel Paccione (Commack, N.Y.) hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eleventh of game one before junior right fielder Michael Marino (Franklin Square, N.Y.) followed with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh of game two leading Farmingdale State to a doubleheader sweep of St. Joe's.

This afternoon 10 seniors were honored as they played in the final regular season home game. Paccione, Dominick Giammona (Deer Park, N.Y.) Sal Sanquini (Levittown, N.Y.), Edward Bergmann (East Meadow, N.Y.), Michael Dolce (St. James, N.Y.), Chris Dragone (Hicksville, N.Y.), Timmy Trimarchi (Hauppauge, N.Y.), Dominick Morelli (Massapequa, N.Y.), Matthew DeRamo (Smithtown, N.Y.) and James Powers (Riverhead, N.Y.) were all honored between games.

In game one, Farmingdale State (21-10, 11-5) took a 4-3 lead in the third inning on an RBI groundout by junior third baseman Mike Scarlato (Holbrook, N.Y.). The Rams extended their lead to 5-3 the following inning as junior shortstop Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) recorded an RBI groundout which scored Bergmann.

St. Joe's  (16-17, 9-7) closed within one after eight innings and used an unearned run in the ninth to tie the game at 5-5.

In the bottom of the eleventh, Paccione registered a pinch hit RBI single to right field which scored Bergmann and led the Rams to a 6-5 game one victory.

Bergmann led the way for the Rams after going 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and 2 RBI, while Marino was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Dolce picked up a no decision after allowing three runs over 7.1 innings of work and sophomore Alex Weingarten (East Rockaway, N.Y.) earned the win after giving up one run in 3.1 innings of relief.

Freshman right fielder Anthony Bonilla (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) had two hits and scored two runs for the Golden Eagles.

In the second game, the Rams jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead on a Marino sacrifice fly which scored Bergmann.

St. Joe's tallied three runs in the top of the fifth to take their first lead of the game, 3-1.

Farmingdale State closed within one, 3-2, on an RBI fielders choice by Bergmann in the sixth inning.

After the Golden Eagles extended the lead to 4-2, Bergmann singled to center in the seventh to again cut the deficit to one. Two batters later, Marino hit a walk-off 2 RBI single up the middle to seal the senior day sweep.

Bergmann had two hits, two runs scored and 2 RBI, while junior shortstop Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.) was 2-for-3 at the plate.

The Skyline Conference playoffs begin next week.
