Rams Fall to Plattsburgh State

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team fell to visiting Plattsburgh State today in a non-conference game in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams (0-2) were outshot 54-24, but saw 18 saves from senior goalkeeper Patrick Delventhal (Westbury, N.Y.) in the loss. Plattsburgh State improved to 2-0 with the win.

Farmingdale junior midfielder Bobby Thomas (Wantagh, N.Y.) opened the scoring off an assist from senior midfielder Tim Caden (Setauket, N.Y.) for a 1-0 lead. Sophomore midfielder Nick Travers (Smithtown, N.Y.) evened the score with an unassisted goal.

Senior midfielder Rob Nosworthy (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Thomas connected for the Rams second goal, giving them a 2-1 lead. Freshman attack Brendan Damm (Montauk, N.Y.) would tie it up again, 2-2, at the 9:09 mark. Farmingdale senior attack Bill McGarvey (Sayville, N.Y.) scored at 6:24, assisted by Nosworthy, but Plattsburgh would score four unanswered goals to hold a 6-3 advantage after the first period.

In the second, junior midfielder Josh Lamantia (Setauket, N.Y.) and senior attack Ryan Oswald (Floral Park, N.Y.) scored within the first five minutes to put the Rams to within one, 6-5. Plattsburgh responded with three straight goals for a 9-5 lead and would hold on for the victory.

For Farmingdale, Caden and Thomas led the scoring with three points each. Senior defender Joe Ciaravino (Levittown, N.Y.) finished with five ground balls and five caused turnovers. Junior defender Ricky Morales (Holtsville, N.Y.) caused five turnovers. Sophomore midfielder Al Rocco (Elmont, N.Y.) led the team with six ground balls and won 7-of-11 faceoffs.

Plattsburgh's scoring was led by junior attack Joey Kramer (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) with three goals and one assist. Freshman long stick middie Nick Parrella (Miller Place, N.Y.) had a game-high 10 caused turnovers and nine ground balls. Travers posted a game-high 11 ground balls, along with two goals, two caused turnovers and won 7-of-12 faceoffs.

The Rams will now host Vassar College on Wednesday, March 7 at 3:00 p.m.
