Hartwick Stuns Rams in Final Minute

Farmingdale, N.Y. - A goal by Hartwick's sophomore midfielder Cody Ciolino (Nesconset, N.Y.) with 44 seconds remaining gave the visiting Hawks a 10-9 victory over Farmingdale State in today's non-conference men's lacrosse game. The Rams fall to 1-3 overall, while Hartwick improves to 2-1 with the win.

Hartwick led 2-1 after the first, and built up a four goal lead with five more in the second, leading 7-3 at the halftime break. The Rams evened the score in the third, with four goals while holding the Hawks scoreless. Farmingdale capitalized on a 3-minute penalty for an illegal stick on Hartwick freshman midfielder Connor Hudson (Moriches, N.Y.), scoring three goals during that time to tie the game at 7-7.

In the fourth period, Hartwick went up 9-7 on goals from sophomore attack Phil Schaefer (Holbrook, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Irvens Dupuy (Norwalk, Conn.). With 3:26 remaining, Rams senior midfielder Tim Caden (Setauket, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal to make it 9-8, then less than two minutes later he dished off a pass to senior midfielder Shannon Robinson (Freeport, N.Y.) who would even the score at 9-9 with 1:52 on the clock.

Ciolino's goal would prove to be the game-winner for Hartwick, his third goal of the game. He also added an assist for the day. Schaefer led the team with six points on three goals and three assists. Hudson tallied a game-high 10 ground balls and went 11-for-20 on faceoffs. Senior midfielder Mike Morrison (Holbrook, N.Y.) picked up three ground balls and a team-high three caused turnovers. Sophomore goalkeeper Nick Triano (North Andover, Mass.) picked up the win making 14 saves.

For Farmingdale State, senior midfielder Rob Nosworthy (Massapequa, N.Y.) totaled four assists. Robinson finished with three goals, Caden finished with a goal, two assists, three ground balls and four caused turnovers. Junior midfielder Josh Lamantia (Setauket, N.Y.) caused five turnovers and picked up five ground balls. Junior long stick midfielder Ricky Morales (Holtsville, N.Y.) grabbed a game-high seven ground balls and caused three turnovers.

The Rams will face off at Guilford College next on Wednesday, March 14th in a non-conference game at 4:00 p.m.
