Rams Fall After Slow Start at Hartwick

Oneonta, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team fell to 1-2 on the season after suffering a 15-8 loss Saturday at Hartwick. The Rams did not score in the first half and trailed 7-0 at halftime.

Farmingdale State junior midfielder Jimmy Owsinski (Kings Park, N.Y.) scored a goal off Wes Hubschmitt's pass 46 seconds into the second half to get the Rams on the board. After a Hartwick goal with 10:35 remaining in the third, Owsinski netted his second score of the game three minutes later. Hartwick (3-1) closed the third period with two unanswered goals and took a 10-2 advantage into the fourth.

The Rams closed within 11-5 with 8:18 to play, after a goal from Owsinski and two by junior midfielder Tim Caden (Setauket, N.Y.). Hartwick's Brian Finnegan (East Northport, N.Y.) recorded an unassisted goal with 5:59 on the clock, increasing the lead to 12-6. Farmingdale State added three scores over the final 5:09 but fell 15-8.

Owsinski ended the day with a team-high five goals, while Caden scored three. Senior midfielder Frank Limanni (Massapequa, N.Y.) was 12-for-23 on faceoffs and picked up seven groundballs.

Hartwick was led by freshman attack Phil Schafer (Holbrook, N.Y.) who had seven goals and one assist for a game-high eight points.

Farmingdale State next will host Wesleyan in a non-conference game on Wednesday, March 16th at 4:00 p.m.
