Strong Second Half Leads Rams Past Maritime

Throggs Neck, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team defeated Maritime, 70-62, earning a Skyline Conference win Saturday afternoon in Throggs Neck, N.Y. The Rams improved to 14-9 overall, 13-5 in conference play, while the Privateers dropped to 8-15, 6-12 in the Skyline.

After leading 31-29 at halftime, Farmingdale State quickly opened up an 11-point advantage to lead 43-32 with 15:21 remaining. The Rams extended the lead to 48-36 at the 12:13 mark, before Maritime went on a 15-2 run, pulling ahead for the first time since the closing minutes of the first half. Farmingdale state scored layups on their next five possessions to regain control en route to a 70-62 conference victory.

Senior forward Jermaine Abraham (Brooklyn, N.Y./Wadleigh) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards for Farmingdale State. Senior guard Keith Nandin (Queens, N.Y./St. Francis Prep.) and junior guard Joshua Smith (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) each had 11 points.

The Privateers were led by junior forward Sam Porte (Harlem, N.Y./HS for Math, Science and Engineering) who had 12 points and 10 rebounds, while senior forward Quamel Lyerly (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence) and senior guard Paul Suarino (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) each pitched in with 14 points.

Farmingdale State next will host St. Joseph's College in a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday, February 16th at 8:00 p.m.
