Rams Surpass Panthers in Conference Game

Old Westbury, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team defeated conference rival Old Westbury (7-3, 3-2) on Thursday night, 87-60, in Old Westbury, N.Y. The Rams improved to 7-3, 5-1 in the Skyline, improving their overall record against the Panthers to 16-2 All-Time with eight consecutive victories.

Farmingdale held a 47-21 lead at the half after shooting 50-percent from the field and 42-percent from long range, before pouring on 40 more points in the second half to go on for the conference win. The Rams finished with a 44-percent field goal percentage, their second highest of the season.

Senior guard Juanita Chappel (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) led the team with 19 points, seven rebounds and five steals, while sophomore guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y./Roosevelt) finished with 12 points and five assists. Freshman forward Lushanta Savadel (Bellport, N.Y./William Floyd) pulled down a game-high and career-high 10 rebounds.

Kim Weathers scored a game-high 23 points for Old Westbury. Denise Zajonc had 19 points and was perfect 4-for-4 from long range.

The Rams will face conference opponent Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday, January 8th at 1:00 p.m. Farmingdale most recently defeated the Knights last season 67-58 in the Championship game, to end their 10-year Skyline Championship streak.
