Strong First Half Leads Rams Past Panthers

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team outscored Purchase 48-20 in the first half en route to a 93-66 Skyline Conference win. The Rams had four players score in double digits in the victory.

Farmingdale State (8-4, 6-2 Skyline) led 20-18 with 7:35 remaining in the first before closing out the half on a 28-2 run. The Panthers (3-7, 3-3 Skyline) shot only 9-of-27 from the floor in the first half.

The Rams continued their momentum to start the second half, as they opened up a 61-26 advantage with 14:13 to play. Purchase was unable to get back into the game after Farmingdale State's 41-8 run that spanned nearly 14 minutes. 

Junior guard Kayla Koch (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) and sophomore guard Jeanette Zubizarreta (Bay Shore, N.Y./Calhoun) each scored 14 points for the Rams, while senior guard Juanita Chappel (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) had 12 points. Sophomore guard Nikita Green (Roosevelt, N.Y./Roosevelt) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists as well as having seven steals. Junior forward Natasha Smalls (Harlem, N.Y./St. Michael Academy) grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Panthers were led by junior guard Alyssa Guido (Cliffside Park, N.J./Cliffside) who scored a game-high 21 points.

Farmingdale State next will travel to St. Joseph's College for a conference game on Saturday, January 15th at 3:00 p.m.
