Rams Roll to a 6-0 Victory in Season Opener

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer
team won their season opener, 6-0, over King's College (0-1) this
afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y.
Sophomore forward Christina
Merrill (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) scored the games opening
goal for the Rams 10:27 into the contest off a cross from freshman
Sarah
Golden (Greenport, N.Y./Greenport). Sophomore forward Jamie Smith
(Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem East) put Farmingdale State ahead 2-0 as
she scored off the pass from Merrill midway through the first half.
The Rams held an 18-3 shot advantage in the first half and took a
2-0 lead into halftime.
Golden and Smith scored two quick goals for Farmingdale State to
start the second half and open a 4-0 lead at the 48:36 mark.
Merrill would add her second goal of the season ten minutes later
and freshman midfielder Sarah Cairo
(Coram, N.Y./Longwood) scored the games final goal in the 88th
minute. Merrill and Smith each tallied two goals and two assists
for the Rams.
Junior Amanda Maass
(Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) and sophomore Stacey Rao
(Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) did not allow a score as they split
time in goal for the Rams. Junior goalkeeper Danielle Johnson (Bear
Creek Township, Penn./Coughlin) had 12 saves in the loss for the
Lady Monarchs.
The Rams will host New England College in the Farmingdale State
Tournament on Saturday, September 4th at 4:00 p.m.
