Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Farmingdale State baseball
team swept Yeshiva University in a conference doubleheader,
clinching the overall number one seed in the Skyline playoffs. In
the second game, the Rams (20-13, 15-1 Skyline) had four pitchers
combine for a perfect game; Farmingdale's first since becoming a
NCAA Division III member.
In game one, sophomore catcher Frank Scarlato
(Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) was 6-for-7 at the plate with five
RBI's and three runs scored. Junior outfielder Ryan
Rubenstein (Deer Park, N.Y./St. Anthony's) was 4-for-5 with a
home run, two RBI's and four runs scored for Farmingdale State.
Freshman pitcher Vinny Messana
(Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Centereach) earned the win after pitching
five shutout innings, allowing only three hits while striking out
nine.
In the second game, Farmingdale State had four pitchers combine
for a perfect game. Freshman starting pitcher Eddie Balzer
(Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) pitched four innings and Rob
Macaluso (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park), Quillian Buoniello
(Southampton, N.Y./Southampton) and Ramel Graham
(Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) each went an inning in relief, none of
which allowed a base runner.
Farmingdale State next will be hosting CCNY in a non-conference
game at a date to be determined.
