Box Score Vassar Outlasts Rams for the Win
Vassar College - 18, Farmingdale State - 14
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse
team fell to Vassar College, 18-14, today in a non-conference game.
The Rams fell to 6-5 with the loss, while the Brewers improved to
6-7.
Vassar used a seven goal outburst in the first period to hold a
10-4 lead at the half, before Farmingdale scored three of the next
four goals in the second to cut the deficit to 11-7 with 24 minutes
remaining. Another scoring burst by the Brewers would push the lead
to 16-7 with 17:34 on the clock.
Freshman attack Kim Lehmann (Albertson, N.Y./Herricks) notched
her second goal of the half to make it 16-8, while Vassar added
another to make it 17-8. Lehmann scored again, assisted by freshman
midfielder Emily Williams (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields), to make
it 17-9 and Williams tallied her fourth goal of the game to make it
17-10. The Brewers added one more and the Rams ended with four
consecutive goals but could not make the comeback as time ran
out.
Vassar junior midfielder Sarah Warner (Ipswich, Mass./The Waring
School) scored five goals and four caused turnovers for Vassar,
while junior attack Moe Byrne (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) and
sophomore midfielder Elizabeth Feltch (Newtown, Conn./Newtown)
scored three goals and one assist apiece. Sophomore attack Maura
McCarthy (Blue Bell, Pa./Germantown Academy) notched one goal and a
team-high three assists. Junior goalkeeper Nicole Engelhardt
(Longhorn, Pa./The George School) made six saves in 30 minutes of
action for the win.
Farmingdale State was led by junior attack Justine Rothar*
(Levittown, N.Y./Division Ave.) with two goals and six assists,
while Lehmann finished with five goals and four caused turnovers.
Williams finished with five goals, one assist and three caused
turnovers. Freshman defender Jackie Gunn (Farmingdale,
N.Y./Farmingdale) had four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Senior midfielder Kathy Waite* (Levittown, N.Y./Division Ave.)
grabbed eight draw controls. Senior goalkeeper Courtney Caden
(Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) made eight saves in defeat.
The Rams will now host Ramapo College in a Skyline Conference
game on Thursday, April 22nd at 4:00 p.m.
