Rams Fall to Panthers in Skyline Semifinals

Old Westbury - 3, Farmingdale State - 1


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's soccer team fell to Old Westbury, 3-1, in today's Skyline Semifinal game in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams end the season with a 9-10-1 record, while the Panthers advance to the Conference Finals on Saturday with a record of 14-8.

Old Westbury opened the scoring in the sixth minute of play with a goal from senior defender Scott Maddocks (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) on a corner kick. The 1-0 score would stand until the second half, when freshman midfielder Anthony Ippolito (North Bellmore, N.Y./Mepham) received a long cross from senior midfielder Victor Farfan (Bay Shore, N.Y./Brentwood) for the 2-0 lead with 37 minutes remaining.

The Panthers would add a third goal as Farfan headed in a cross from freshman midfielder Diego Mercado (Bayside, N.Y./Holy Cross) at 77:14. Farmingdale was able to break the shutout at 82:07 on a goal from freshman forward Nick Herrera (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) to make it 3-1, but Old Westbury would hold on for the victory.

Senior goalkeeper Darian Bryan (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) made two saves for the Panthers in the first half, while junior goalkeeper Ricky Meschkow (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview-Old Bethpage) made four saves in defeat.

Old Westbury will face the winner of tonight's #1 Maritime / #5 St. Joseph's game, to be played at the highest remaining seed.
