Box Score Late Goal Lifts Rams over Gothic Knights

Farmingdale, N.Y. - A goal by sophomore forward
Katrina Cerverizzo (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) in the
84th minute of play lifted the Rams over New Jersey City (1-1) in
today's non-conference women's soccer game in Farmingdale, N.Y.
Farmingdale State's freshman forward Melissia Elie (Brentwood,
N.Y./Brentwood) opened the scoring in the first half as she stole
the ball from the defender and put a low shot past the goalie for
the 1-0 lead. The Gothic Knights responded just under a minute
later, as sophomore forward Julia Caseras (Union, N.J./Union) made
a quick pass to freshman midfielder Ashley Cunha (Edison,
N.J./Edison), tying the score at 1-1.
In the second half, the Rams controlled the play as they outshot
New Jersey City 17-8. The game would not see any scoring until the
82nd minute. Elie gave Farmingdale their second lead of the day,
stealing the ball from a defender on a goalie rebound. NJCU's
Caseres tied the game 25 seconds later, running the ball down and
scoring on a scramble in front for the 2-2 score.
The game-winner came from Cerverizzo at 84:34 and the Rams took
their final lead of the day to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Kelly Reilly (Pennsville, N.J./Pennsville Memorial) held strong
in the net for the Gothic Knights, finishing with 12 saves,
including nine in the second half.
The Rams will face Scranton tomorrow, Saturday, September 5th,
in another non-conference game at 4:00 p.m.
