Late Goals Lead Drew Past Rams in ECAC Finals

Drew - 2, Farmingdale State - 1

Newark, N.J. - Seniors John Jabar (Oakland, Maine/Waterville) and Jonah Silk (Woodbridge, Conn./Amity) scored in the 85th and 86th minutes respectively for Drew, leading the Rangers to a 2-1 victory over Farmingdale State in the ECAC Metro Men's Soccer Championship. The Rams closed out the 2009 season with a 10-9-1 record.

The second-seeded Rangers (11-5-5) needed both goals as Farmingdale freshman midfielder Joe Brantmeyer (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) put back the rebound of a penalty kick in the final minute, recording his fourth goal in two games. Brantmeyer scored all three goals in the Rams 3-2 victory over (1) Rutgers-Newark in the semifinal round.

Drew controlled play on the offensive end for a majority of the game, building up a 26-9 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.

Farmingdale State goalkeeper Patrick Gubbins (East Patchogue, N.Y./Bellport) made four saves, while senior David Brigandi (Harrington Park, N.J./Northern Valley) stopped six shots in goal for Drew.

The Rams will be returning all but three starters for the 2010 season as Gubbins, Frank Volante (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Farmingdale) and Marcos Cipra (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) closed out their Farmingdale careers in last nights game.
