Newburgh, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's
volleyball team won both matches this weekend at the Skyline
Conference Play Date hosted by Mount Saint Mary College in
Newburgh, N.Y. The Rams improved to 8-15 overall and now hold a 4-4
record in the conference.
Farmingdale State lost the first two sets to Purchase before
rallying to win the final three. Sophomore middle hitter Dominique
Cunningham (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague) led the team with 19 kills
and had 11 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Alyssa Siegel
(Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) had 11 kills for the Rams. Senior
Tiffara Steward (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka) led the way with 15 digs
and sophomore setter Shelby Martin (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) had
a season-high 40 assists in the comeback win.
In the second match, Farmingdale was up 2-0, before Mount Saint
Mary forced a fifth and final set. The Rams won 15-11 in the fifth
set, capping off their second Skyline Conference victory of the
afternoon.
Martin had her second highest assist output of the season with
30 in the win over the Blue Knights. Cunningham had 15 kills and 16
digs, while Steward had a team-high 23 digs for the Rams. Sophomore
Jessica Zimmerman (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) had 13 digs.
Farmingdale hosts Skyline Conference opponent St. Joseph's
College on Wednesday, October 28th at 7:00pm.
