Thomas is a 2017 graduate of Farmingdale High School, where he was an All-Conference athlete and captain. Thomas is the son of Tom and Kathleen Hamel.

Sophomore year...Appeared in 17 games, with six starts...Led the team with five goals and 10 points.

Freshman year...Played in nine games during his freshman campaign...Ranked second on the team with four goals and third with nine points.
