Women's Tennis Falls at Cortland

Cortland 7, Farmingdale State 0
CORTLAND, N.Y. | Playing for the second time in less than 24 hours, the Farmingdale State College women's tennis team fell Monday at SUNY Cortland, as the Rams dropped a 7-0 decision to the Red Dragons.

Cortland (2-1) went ahead by a 1-0 margin after capturing all three doubles matches against FSC (0-2), with the Rams' top-flight duo of sophomore Kaelin Burnett (East Islip, N.Y.) and freshman Ana Hernandez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) playing to a 6-4 decision versus the hosts' Christina Massoni and Gabriella Stanley.

For the second time in as many days, Burnett played a three-set match in singles competition. She took the first set of her second-flight match against Stanley by a 6-3 count, before losing the second set, 6-4, and falling 10-4 in the super tiebreaker.

Similarly, freshman Emma Johannsen (Verplanck, N.Y.) advanced to a super tiebreaker third set at the No. 4 flight against Alexandra Thut. Thut battled back from one set down to earn the win via a 10-8 triumph in the super tiebreaker, after Johannsen started play with a 6-3 edge in the opening set.

Farmingdale State is next in action in its home and Skyline Conference opener on Wednesday afternoon, as it will play host to Yeshiva University at 4:30.
