Allison Marino (Merrimack, N.H.) tallied a career-high seven service aces to lead the Farmingdale State women's volleyball team to a 3-1 non-conference victory at Western Connecticut State on Wednesday evening. The Rams improved to 5-1 on the season, while the Wolves fell to 2-9.
Farmingdale State took the opening set, 25-21, before holding off WestConn, 25-20, in the second to take a 2-0 lead. The Wolves answered with a 25-20 third-set victory to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The Rams responded in the fourth set, hitting .407 with 13 kills and just two errors, to earn the 25-15 victory and close out the 3-1 win.
Wandmacher finished with 13 kills on a .409 hitting percentage, while senior setter
Sarah Rende (Wantagh, N.Y.) recorded 41 assists, four service aces and five digs. Junior outside hitter
Samantha Russo (Bay Shore, N.Y.) tallied nine kills, 11 digs and two aces, and sophomore middle blocker
Alana Henry (Amityville, N.Y.) added eight kills on a .467 hitting percentage with two solo blocks and one block assist. Sophomore outside hitter
Asia Perkes (Laurel, Md.) contributed six kills without an error and hit .667 in two sets played.
Marino recorded a match-high seven service aces, which is tied for the fourth-most aces in a four-set match in program history. Senior libero
Allison Salinas (Glen Cove, N.Y.) collected a team-high 22 digs.
As a team, Farmingdale State hit .227 and totaled 14 service aces, 10 team blocks and 59 digs in the victory.
The Rams will next play host to non-conference opponent SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, September 26th at 2:00 p.m.
