Lucca Noboa (Freeport, N.Y.) scored with just 2:50 left to play to lift the Farmingdale State College men's soccer team to a 1-0 Skyline Conference victory over Maritime College on Tuesday night. With the win, FSC improved to 3-5-1 overall and 1-1 in Skyline Conference play.
After a scoreless 87 minutes, junior defender
William Guillen (Locust Valley, N.Y.)Â collected a deflected ball on the left wing before finding Noboa, who had gotten free in the middle. Guillen sent the cross in front and Noboa used his chest to deflect the ball past the Maritime goalkeeper for the game-winning goal.
FSC kept Maritime (2-4, 1-1 Skyline) off the board in the first half despite the Privateers holding a 6-2 edge in shots. Maritime continued to apply pressure after halftime and finished the match with an 18-7 advantage in shots and an 11-3 edge in corner kicks.
Noboa led Farmingdale State with four shots, while sophomore midfielder
Carlos Hernandez (Dix Hills, N.Y.) added two. Sophomore goalkeeper
Vas Dallas (Garden City South, N.Y.) made six saves to record his first shutout of the season.
The Rams will next play host to Mount Saint Mary College in a Skyline matchup on Saturday, September 26th at noon.
