Volleyball Sweeps Old Westbury

Farmingdale State 3, Old Westbury 0 (25-9, 25-22, 25-15)
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's volleyball team had 14 players score points Wednesday night at the Walter A. Lynch Sports Center, as the Rams cruised to a 3-0 sweep over Skyline Conference foe SUNY Old Westbury in the Rams' first home match in over one month.

Prior to the match, FSC senior setter Sarah Rende (Wantagh, N.Y.) was presented with a commemorative match ball in recognition of becoming the program's career assist leader on Sept. 15 at Hunter College. The three-time All-Skyline Conference honoree now has 2,254 assists across her four-year stint in a green and white uniform.

Junior outside hitter Samantha Russo (Bay Shore, N.Y.) led all players with nine points for the Rams (6-2, 1-1 Skyline) on six kills and three service aces, while classmate and right side Leslie Wandmacher (Bay Shore, N.Y.) floored a team-best seven kills on a .429 hitting percentage. Sophomore middle Alana Henry (Amityville, N.Y.) tallied five kills and four block assists against the Panthers (4-4, 0-2), with Rende (12 assists) and senior libero Allison Salinas (Glen Cove, N.Y.) passing 12 and 11 digs, respectively. Junior defensive specialist Samantha DiBiasi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) landed three aces at the service line to match Russo for the match-high mark.

After coasting to a first-set victory behind nine-consecutive points at the service line from junior Jessica Farrell (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), Farmingdale State held off a late rally by Old Westbury in the second frame to double its edge in the match. The Rams then limited the Panthers to a minus-.107 hitting percentage in the final set to complete the conference sweep.

FSC's three-match Skyline Conference homestand continues Friday at 5 p.m., when it plays host to SUNY Purchase.
