BRONXVILLE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's tennis team picked up a 7-0 Skyline Conference victory at Sarah Lawrence College on Tuesday evening.
The Rams (6-6) opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matches. Seniors Natalia Furchel (Manorville, N.Y.) and Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) earned a 6-3 win at first doubles, while sophomore Kaelin Burnett (East Islip, N.Y.) and freshman Emma Johannsen (Verplanck, N.Y.) followed with a 6-4 victory at No. 2. At third doubles, sophomore Marybeth Zimos (Hicksville, N.Y.) and freshman Ana Hernandez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) completed the sweep with a 6-3 win.
In singles play, Furchel cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Josephine Jackson in the top-flight. Burnett followed at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Neomi Spellman, while Loria blanked Serafina Panuccio, 6-0, 6-1, at third singles.
Hernandez earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Caroline He at fourth singles, and Johannsen picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win against Carolina Gherardi in the fifth position.
With the match already clinched, sixth singles was played as an eight-game pro set, with Zimos earning an 8-7 victory over Elena Valente after winning the tiebreaker, 7-5.
The Rams improved to 3-1 in Skyline Conference play and will return to action on Thursday, October 8th when they travel to Lehman College for a non-conference match at 3:30 p.m.
