WAYNE, N.J. | The Farmingdale State College women's tennis team collected its fourth consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon, as the Rams (5-5) started its five-match road swing with a 6-1 win at William Paterson University.
FSC swept all three doubles matches to move ahead of the Pioneers (2-2), with the pairing of freshman
Ana Hernandez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and sophomore
Marybeth Zimos (Hicksville, N.Y.) earning a 6-0 shutout in their third flight contest. Sophomore
Kaelin Burnett (East Islip, N.Y.) and freshman
Emma Johannsen (Verplanck, N.Y.) carded a 6-1 win in the No. 2 slot over Hilary Valdez and Nadine Mari, while the Rams' top-flight tandem of seniors
Natalia Furchel (Manorville, N.Y.) and
Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) moved past WPU's Isabella Paladino and Allison Stein.
Farmingdale State won five out of six singles matches on the day, beginning with Loria sweeping past Valdez at No. 3, 6-0 and 6-0. Johannsen lost just one second-set game to William Paterson's Makayla Yancey in the fifth flight, while Burnett (7-5, 6-4) and Hernandez (6-3, 6-4) turned aside Stein and Mari in the second and fourth slots, respectively. Furchel earned a 7-2 tiebreaker victory in her No. 1 match versus Paladino, and used that momentum to complete the straight-sets decision with a 6-0 score in the second stanza.
FSC returns to the road Monday afternoon, when it travels to Purchase, N.Y., for a 4 p.m. first serve at Manhattanville University.
