Farmingdale State 4, Yeshiva 2
TEANECK, N.J. | Freshman forward
Javier Newman (Amityville, N.Y.) had a hand in all four goals Sunday afternoon for the Farmingdale State College men's soccer team, as the rookie scored two goals and added as many assists in the Rams' 4-2 Skyline Conference victory against Yeshiva University.
Newman opened the scoring with a 29th-minute goal off a feed from junior
Sebastian Cuenca (East Rockaway, N.Y.) to give FSC (5-9-2, 3-4-1 Skyline) a 1-0 lead over the host Maccabees (3-5-4, 0-5-3), before the pair reversed roles 53 seconds later on Cuenca's third goal of the season to stake the visitors to a 2-0 lead that they would carry into the halftime break.
After YU pulled one goal back five minutes into the second half from the penalty spot, Newman set up sophomore
Carlos Hernandez (Dix Hills, N.Y.) for his fifth goal of the season with 28:07 remaining to restore Farmingdale State's two-goal advantage. Cuenca later assisted Newman on an insurance goal 13 minutes before the final whistle, as Newman's seventh strike of the season upped the Rams' edge to 4-1.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Vas Dallas (Garden City South, N.Y.) made 10 saves on the day for Farmingdale State, which next travels to SUNY Old Westbury on Tuesday afternoon for a 3 p.m. Skyline Conference kickoff.
