Volleyball Moves Win Streak to Three With Skyline Victory Over Maritime

Farmingdale State 3, Maritime 1 (25-19, 25-13, 23-25, 25-10)
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Behind 14 points apiece from junior outside hitter Samantha Russo (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and sophomore middle blocker Alana Henry (Amityville, N.Y.), the Farmingdale State College women's volleyball captured its third Skyline Conference victory in as many matches this week with a 3-1 triumph over visiting Maritime College.

Russo floored 11 kills, landed two aces, set two block assists and passed a match-high 19 digs for the Rams (8-2, 3-1 Skyline), while Henry hit .333 on her way to nine kills, a match-high-tying four aces and one block solo against the Privateers (3-14, 1-2). Senior setter Sarah Rende (Wantagh, N.Y.) filled the stat sheet with 28 assists, 10 digs, four kills and as many service aces, with freshman Valerie Rios Santos (Bronx, N.Y.) hitting .667 with four kills on six swings to go with three aces. Junior Mackenzie Marquardt (Centereach, N.Y.) and junior right side Leslie Wandmacher (Bay Shore, N.Y.) both added six kills on the afternoon, with Marquardt hitting .278 along the way.

After the Rams conceded just five kills apiece by Maritime in the first two sets, the visitors posted an 11-3-29 (.276) hitting line in the third frame to pull within a 2-1 margin. From there, FSC hit a resounding .391 (11-2-23) while adding four aces at the service line to pull away and close out the afternoon.

Farmingdale State is back in Skyline play Tuesday night (Oct. 13), when it travels to the University of Mount Saint Vincent for a 6 p.m. first serve.
