FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College baseball team earned a pair of wins over Yeshiva University on Sunday and finished the regular season with a 14-6 conference record. The Rams have earned the No. 3 seed for next week's Skyline Conference Baseball Championship and will host a first round game against No. 6 Manhattanville (10-9) on Wednesday. The winner will move on to the double-elimination portion of the Championship, which will be played at top-seeded Merchant Marine (16-4) next weekend (May 9-11).
Game 1
The Rams earned a 26-0 win in the opening game as
TJ Cox (Mineola, N.Y. - 5.0 IP, 4 H, 5 SO) and
Joseph Mattaliano (Staten Island, N.Y. - 2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 SO) combined for the shutout.
Junior outfielder
Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) went 5-for-5 with five RBI's and four runs scored. Freshman
Kaolis Delacruz (Levittown, N.Y.) finished 4-for-4 with four runs batted in, while sophomore
Ryan Tam (Wantagh, N.Y.) had four hits and five runs scored. Junior
Christopher Sais (Hicksville, N.Y.) and
Chris McGuggart (Bethpage, N.Y.) recorded three hits apiece with Sais,
Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.) and
James Manzella (Beldwin, N.Y.) each hitting home runs.Â
Game 2
FSCÂ tallied a 12-run fourth inning en route to a 26-3 victory.
Senior
Chris McGuggart (Bethpage, N.Y.) produced three hits, four RBI's, two runs, a walk and a stolen base. Senior
Tyler DiRocco (Commack, N.Y.) registered three hits, a double, one RBI and one run scored, while Heyder contributed a pair of doubles with three runs batted in. Tam went 2-for-2 with a walk and increased his batting average to .545 this season. He has two or more hits in seven of his last 11 games played.
