FARMINGDALE STATE POST-GAME PRESS CONFERENCE
BALTIMORE | The Farmingdale State College baseball team was eliminated from the 2025 NCAA Division III Championship on Saturday, as the Rams were defeated by RPI, 5-4. FSC junior Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) tallied a pinch-hit, solo home run to lead off the top of the ninth inning and knot the game at 4-4 before the Engineers (30-15) pushed across a run in the bottom half of the inning to earn the 5-4 walk-off victory.Â
Farmingdale State ends its season with a 26-16 record, capturing the Skyline Conference Championship for the first time since 2019.Â
The Rams took an early lead in the top of the first as a walk by senior outfielder Matthew Flood (Islip, N.Y.) followed by three straight singles by Kaolis Delacruz (Levittown, N.Y.), Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.) and Christopher Sais (Hicksville, N.Y.) brought home a pair of runs to go up, 2-0.Â
The game remained 2-0 until the third inning when RPI jumped ahead with three runs. After a double, three singles on three consecutive pitches tied the score at 2-2. The Engineers tallied their third run on a throwing error later in the inning to take the 3-2 advantage.Â
FSC quickly tied the game in the top of the fourth as senior Patrick Dallas (Patchogue, N.Y.) hit a single, junior Mike Kocovic (Mahopac, N.Y.) registered a double and junior Ryan Plocker (Dix Hills, N.Y.) produced an RBI sacrifice bunt to bring in Dallas.Â
RPI recorded a run in the seventh on a throwing error by FSC to take a 4-3 lead before Heyder's game-tying home run in the ninth. He came off the bench and hit a towering home run to right-center on the first pitch he saw to knot the game at 4-4.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Engineers tallied a pair of hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice bunt to set up second and third with one out. Farmingdale State intentionally walked the next batter to load the bases, but a bloop single down the left field line allowed the winning run to score and give RPI the 5-4 victory.Â
Lambert went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Flood reached base twice and scored a run. Senior Tyler DiRocco (Commack, N.Y.) had a hit and a walk and Sais finished with a hit and one run batted in.Â
Junior Michael Camardi (Syosset, N.Y.) pitched 3.2 innings in relief for FSC, allowing just one hit and one unearned run in defeat. He finishes the season with a team-low 1.35 earned run average in 32.1 innings pitched.Â
