CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
KINGS POINT, N.Y. | The FSC baseball team advanced to Sunday's Skyline Conference Championship Final with a 9-1 win over fourth-seeded Mount Saint Mary on Saturday evening. The Rams fell to top-seeded Merchant Marine, 6-2, in the winner's bracket of the double-elimination tournament, before bouncing back with the win over the Knights.

FSC (24-14) heads into Championship Sunday with one loss and will need to defeat the Mariners (28-13) twice to capture the title. Merchant Marine needs just one win to secure the Championship. Game one is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Game 1

The Rams took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning against USMMA as senior third baseman Tyler DiRocco (Commack, N.Y.) hit a double, advanced to third on a single by senior designated hitter Chris McGuggart (Bethpage, N.Y.), and scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore second baseman Aiden Mehmel (Mastic Beach, N.Y.).

Merchant Marine tied the game in the sixth with an RBI single, then took the lead on a two-out, two-run single to make it 3-1. The Mariners extended their advantage to 6-1 with a three-run home run in the seventh.

Farmingdale State got one run back in the eighth on a DiRocco RBI single, but couldn't close the gap further as they fell, 6-2.

DiRocco, McGuggart and junior center fielder Mike Kocovic (Mahopac, N.Y.) registered two hits apiece in the loss.

On the mound, senior Roman Dorosh (Holbrook, N.Y.) went five innings, allowing just one run, while junior Derek Torres (Massapequa, N.Y.) pitched three shutout innings in relief.

Game 2

In the elimination game, Farmingdale State scored single runs in the first, fourth and sixth to build a 3-0 lead.

In the first, junior right fielder Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) singled and later came around to score on a MSMC (22-18-1) throwing error. In the fourth, sophomore left fielder Ryan Tam (Wantagh, N.Y.) singled home freshman shortstop Kaolis Delacruz (Levittown, N.Y.). The sixth inning saw junior Christian Villacci (Smithtown, N.Y.) lay down a successful squeeze bunt to bring home Delacruz again.

After the Knights cut their deficit to 3-1, Farmingdale State responded with six runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a commanding 9-1 advantage. Delacruz, Kocovic and seniors Patrick Dallas (Patchogue, N.Y. - 2x) and Jordan Lambert (Plainview, N.Y.) produced RBI hits in the inning.

Junior pitchers Michael Camardi (Syosset, N.Y. - 7.0 IP, 1 R, 7 SO) and TJ Cox (Mineola, N.Y. - 2.0 IP, 0 R, 1 SO) combined to hold Mount Saint Mary to just one run as the Rams secured the 9-1 win. Camardi tossed seven innings with seven strikeouts, while Cox closed the final two frames without allowing a run.

Lambert led the offense with three hits, one RBI and one run scored, Delacruz registered two hits, a walk and three runs, and Kocovic produced two hits and one run batted in. DiRocco contributed a double, walk and one run scored in the win.
