Men's Lacrosse Falls in Overtime at Maritime

Maritime 12, Farmingdale State 11 (OT)
THROGGS NECK, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College men's lacrosse team, receiving votes in this week's USILA Division III Coaches Poll, fell Tuesday night at Skyline Conference rival Maritime College in overtime, 12-11.

The Rams (13-3, 5-1 Skyline) now sit in a three-way tie for first place in the Skyline with the Privateers (7-7, 5-1) and the United States Merchant Marine Academy. FSC still controls its own destiny to earn the top seed for next week's four-team conference championship, as a victory on "Senior Day" Saturday at 12:30 p.m. versus Manhattanville University would give the Rams the No. 1 slot based on the conference's tiebreaker procedures.

Both teams scored four times apiece in the first quarter, with Farmingdale State senior Thomas Mai (Islip, N.Y.) netting a pair of goals, while junior Kamryn Gill's (Riverhead, N.Y.) strike with 1:15 remaining put his side ahead 4-3.

Mai's third goal of the evening came 2:31 into the second period, before Maritime registered the next four goals of the contest to take a 9-6 advantage with 6:42 remaining in the third quarter. The Rams responded with a 5-1 run of their own, and went ahead 11-10 on Gill's right-side crease roll with 6:21 remaining in the fourth period. Following a shot-clock violation by the visitors, the Privateers put home the game-tying goal with under nine seconds remaining to send the game into an extra session.

FSC won the overtime face-off on a ground ball by freshman wing Logan Reese (West Islip, N.Y.), before Mai's shot out of a time out was blocked in traffic. Maritime cleared into its offensive zone, and scored the game-winner with 1:56 on the clock.

Gill and senior Thomas Stock (Selden, N.Y.) recorded two goals and one assist apiece, while senior attackman Andrew Giovinco (Syosset, N.Y.) passed out a game-high three assists and caused two turnovers in the riding game. Sophomore long-stick midfielder Sean Lawson (Mattituck, N.Y.) picked up a team-high seven loose balls in front of senior goalie Dan Erler (Smithtown, N.Y.), who made 13 saves in the FSC cage.
