Farmingdale State SAAC Leads Successful Food Drive for Island Harvest

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its fourth annual food drive recently in advance of the Thanksgiving holiday for the Island Harvest organization, and this year's 10-day drive yielded a record donation of 233 pounds of food to support local individuals in need.

The Rams' SAAC committee has held this drive since 2022, with the group setting up donation boxes in the Nold Hall lobby for student-athletes and the greater Farmingdale State College community to donate non-perishable food items to Island Harvest. Island Harvest is part of Feeding America, which is a nationwide network of food banks, food pantries and local meal programs with a common goal to help people get the food and resources they need to thrive.

"We are so  proud to partner with island harvest. Our student-athletes and staff value giving back to the community and we look forward to partnering with Island Harvest for years to come," said Farmingdale State Director of Athletics, Tom Azzara. "I am so thankful for everything our student-athletes do for the community and amazing causes such as this one."

Student-athletes Gabriel Aguilar (Jr.; Levittown, N.Y.) of the men's cross country and track and field teams, along with women's lacrosse players Carly Livingston (Jr.; Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Giavanna Stamatelo (Jr.; Levittown, N.Y.), helped deliver the food to the Melville branch of Island Harvest on Wednesday, November 19.

"Helping our community reinforces why we do what we do," said Stamatelo. "When (FSC's 18 varsity teams) come together for something bigger than ourselves, it strengthens both our teams and our campus."

"It really means a lot to me to help people in our community," added Livingston. "Events like this bring everyone together and create a real sense of connection within our athletic department and the College."
